How the cheaper routings work, and what you take on by booking one.
What is a positioning flight?
A cheap short flight to a different departure airport, booked separately, because the long flight is far cheaper from there. Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, then Kuala Lumpur to Munich, can cost less than the direct Sydney to Munich fare.
Are these two separate tickets?
On a split-ticket result, yes. That is the whole saving and the whole risk: bags may need collecting and rechecking, and if the first flight is late the second airline owes you nothing. Every split says so on the card, with the connection time.
Are the prices live?
The prices you see first are fares we have already observed on that route, so they load instantly. Before you book, verify the exact itinerary live. The button is on the result.
Do you sell the tickets?
No. Kaviqa finds the routing and sends you to the airline or booking site to pay. We never see your card.
What if the normal flight is already the best?
Then we say so. A search that finds nothing better than the obvious fare is a useful answer, not a failed one.
What is the economy short leg option?
On a split, it prices the shorter booking in economy and keeps your chosen cabin on the long one, which is usually where most of the saving is. It is off unless you turn it on, because it changes what you actually fly.
Which routes does this work on?
Best on long, expensive premium-cabin routes, where the gap between the obvious fare and a better routing is large enough to be worth the extra booking. On short or already-cheap routes the normal fare usually wins, and we will tell you that.
