Business class sales from Australia: how they work
Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines both ran Europe sales for 2027 travel in October 2026, Qatar's until 30 October and Singapore's until 29 October. A sale is a real discount on a narrow product, and the narrowness is where the catch sits. This page covers what these sales are, what the October 2026 ones offered, when they have tended to run, and how to check one against the fare you would otherwise pay.

What an airline sale actually is
A business class sale is not the airline marking down the cabin. It is the airline releasing a limited number of seats in a cheaper fare class, for specific travel dates, for a specific booking window. Everything outside those limits prices as normal. The headline number is real, but it describes the cheapest seat in the best-case month, not the average business ticket on the route. Our guide to fare classes explains the letter on the ticket that decides what you get.
That is why two people looking at the same sale can pay very different amounts. The first gets the lead-in fare because they can fly on a Tuesday in February. The second wants the last week of March and finds the sale fare is not offered on that date. Neither is wrong about what the airline advertised.
What was on sale in October 2026
Two Europe sales from Australian departure cities ran in October 2026, both for travel in 2027: Qatar's until 30 October and Singapore's until 29 October. Check the airline's own page to see whether either is still open. Etihad's March sale is included because it shows what a low sale fare looks like once the conditions are read. Fares are return and per person, and appear to be in Australian dollars, as reported by the trade press on the dates shown. Treat them as benchmarks, not quotes.
| Airline and sale | Book by | Travel window | Example fares reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qatar Airways early bird (Travel Monitor, 9 Oct 2026) | Until 30 Oct 2026 | 17 Jan to 31 Oct 2027, with blackout dates | Perth to Barcelona from $8,259; Sydney to Rome $8,699; Brisbane to Barcelona $9,079; Melbourne to Athens $9,749 |
| Singapore Airlines Early Bird (windows: Travel Weekly, 8 Oct 2026; fares: Travel Monitor, 12 Oct 2026) | Until 29 Oct 2026 | Most destinations, three windows in 2027: 20 Jan to 20 Mar, 15 Apr to 10 Jun, 12 Jul to 20 Sep | From Sydney: Brussels $8,064; Paris $9,295; London $9,590 |
| Etihad Europe sale (Australian Frequent Flyer, 26 Mar 2026) | Closed | 2 Apr to 14 Jun 2026 | Sydney or Melbourne to Athens or Istanbul from $3,525, on the Business Value fare |
The Etihad row is the one to learn from. That $3,525 fare was the Business Value product, which came without lounge access or free seat selection; the fuller Business Comfort fare added $624 on Sydney to Athens. The Athens flight itself was an Airbus A321neo with recliner seats in a 2-2 layout. The fare was low at a time of Middle East disruption, and it came with a thinner product than the word business suggests.
Is this year's early bird cheaper than last year's?
Not on these two. The same airlines ran the same style of sale a year ago, and the advertised lead-in business fares were lower.
| Airline and departure | Sale for 2026 travel (2025) | Sale for 2027 travel (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Qatar Airways, from Perth | $7,599 (Travel Weekly, 7 Oct 2025) | $8,259 to Barcelona (Travel Monitor, 9 Oct 2026) |
| Singapore Airlines, Sydney to London | $8,820 (Travel Monitor, 11 Sep 2025) | $9,590 (Travel Monitor, 12 Oct 2026) |
The comparison is imperfect. Travel windows, destinations and taxes are not identical from year to year, and the 2025 Qatar figure was published as a lead-in by departure city rather than by destination. But the direction is clear enough to act on: an early bird label does not mean the price has fallen, and a fare that was a good deal last year is not evidence this year's is.
When these sales have tended to run
There is no published calendar, and anyone who gives you exact dates for next year is guessing. What the record shows is a pattern for the Europe early bird sales, which sell next year's travel in the autumn.
- Qatar Airways: booking from 7 to 31 October 2025 for travel from 19 January to 31 October 2026, then 6 to 30 October 2026 for travel from 17 January to 31 October 2027.
- Singapore Airlines: a sale for 2026 travel reported on 11 September 2025 with a 30 September cut-off, and the 2027 sale that opened on 8 October 2026 and ran until 29 October.
- Etihad: a Europe sale reported on 26 March 2026, for travel starting a week later. That is a different animal: short notice, short travel window.
Two years of the same Qatar timing is a reasonable basis for watching October next year. It is not a promise. Sale timing is the airline's decision, and Middle East disruption in 2026 has made it an unusual year on Europe routes.
What the fine print takes away
- Gaps in the travel window. Singapore Airlines' windows leave out 21 March to 14 April and 11 June to 11 July. Those are the weeks the sale fares do not cover. Qatar's blackout dates vary by departure city and include several weeks of the European summer peak, so check its offer page for your city.
- No Christmas. Qatar's travel window starts on 17 January 2027 and Singapore's on 20 January. Neither Australian sale covers December travel. If you want to be in Europe over Christmas, these sale fares are not for you, though that does not mean no December discounts exist.
- One open-jaw per booking. Qatar allows flying into one European city and home from another, but only once per booking.
- Agent fees. Qatar says service fees may apply to bookings through travel agents and online agencies, and that the offer applies only to flights it markets and operates.
- Unbundled fares. As Etihad showed, the lowest business fare may leave out the lounge and the seat choice. Read what is in the fare before you compare it.
How to check a sale against the alternatives
A sale fare is a single ticket on one airline, from your home city. It is one of several ways to build the trip. A two-ticket build is an economy flight to an Asian hub plus a separate business ticket on to Europe, and a business seat from a hub can price differently from the through-fare from Australia. Kaviqa prices the single ticket and the two-ticket builds together, which is how you find out whether a sale is the best deal on offer or just the best one from a single airline. How to search with Kaviqa shows how to let those results appear.
If the dates are flexible, when to book long-haul business class covers how premium cabins reprice as they fill. Because the sales above are priced for Australian departure cities, New Zealand departures should be checked separately rather than assumed to match.
Look at today's verified business-class deals on Kaviqa and compare them with whatever the airlines are advertising this week.
Common questions
- When do airlines run business class sales from Australia?
- There is no fixed calendar. The Europe early bird sales from Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines have both run in the Australian spring for travel the following year, and Qatar's ran in the same October window in 2025 and 2026. Sales like these have run for roughly three to four weeks, so they can be over by the time you read about them. Etihad's March 2026 sale shows that short-notice sales happen too.
- Is the Qatar Airways early bird sale still on?
- Qatar's October 2026 sale ran until 30 October, according to the Australian trade press, for travel from 17 January to 31 October 2027, with blackout dates. Check qatarairways.com to see whether it is still open or has been extended.
- Are early bird business class fares cheaper than normal fares?
- Sometimes, but not automatically. The advertised lead-in business fares for 2027 travel from Qatar and Singapore Airlines are higher than the equivalent lead-in fares a year earlier. Compare the sale price with a normal fare on the same dates before you decide.
- Do cheap business class sale fares include lounge access?
- Not always. Etihad's $3,525 Europe fare in March 2026 was the Business Value product, which had no lounge access or free seat selection. The airline's higher Business Comfort fare cost more and included both.
- Can I use a sale fare for Christmas travel?
- The two Australian Europe sales from October 2026 do not cover it. Qatar's travel window starts on 17 January 2027 and Singapore Airlines' on 20 January 2027. Christmas travel is sold at normal fares.
- Is a sale fare better than a two-ticket business fare?
- Neither wins every time. A sale fare is one protected ticket on one airline. A two-ticket fare can come in under it on some dates but carries the risk of a missed connection. Kaviqa shows both, with the connection time in the flight details.
